Chip's Corner

for simply sound advice

Maplin Electronics would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our new friend Chip. He's going to appear in a new range of informative publications, 'Technology Explained', which will cover various subjects showing how easy some of our technology is to use and that you don't need a degree in electronics to scan some of your old negatives, or a BSc in computer science to back up your files from your pc.

Hello there! My name's 'Chip' and I'm here to help

WOW my very own page, it's all mine and I will be using it to help give you advice and trying to simplify some of the more complicated product ranges we sell by using simple language and little or no jargon. I'll tell you what some of the new technology terms mean and how simple some of our products are to use and that there's very little these days that you need a degree in rocket science to understand. You will also see me throughout the website, so keep your eyes peeled for my top tips and suggestions.

Disco Lighting

Chip Explains...

Get partying - LED style!

A few years ago disco lighting was a reserve for the professional DJ or venue, well - not any more.

With the advent of LED lighting becoming cheaper and more available it’s uses are widespread, and not surprisingly LED disco lights are fast becoming hot buys.

With the ability to product bright vibrant colours and without the headaches of bulbs blowing or extreme heat from the amount of bulbs required, LEDs are ideal for small scale disco and party lighting.

Lots of these units are self controlled which means no complicated DMX interface to control the lighting - you simply switch on and party! Features such as audio controlled effects are commonplace - making your lights, flash move and pulse to the beat of your music.

Maplin’s range of LED disco lights are ideally priced to have a small cost but large impact on your party!

Chip Explains...

Film Scanners allow you to...

  • Preserve photos and slides
  • Edit and upload restored pictures online to share with your family and friends
  • Store thousands of photos on one small hard drive

How does it work?

  • Insert negatives or slides into the scanner
  • Scan - and they are transferred on to your computer where you can save, print and share them
